Carolina Beach Area Holiday Events 2021

Updated: October 21, 2025

Carolina Beach and nearby Kure Beach are brimming with festive December events. Catch the Island of Lights Parade, lighted boat flotilla, holiday markets, and themed celebrations like a Grinch party. Ring in 2022 with live music, dancing, and fireworks at multiple venues across both beaches.

Christmas at the beach

I always look forward to December at Carolina Beach. The Island of Lights Parade draws massive crowds, and the flotilla on the water is something I try not to miss. If you're planning a holiday trip, these two celebrations alone make it worth the visit.

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN CAROLINA BEACH

Island of Lights Parade

Traditionally held the first Friday after Thanksgiving, this evening parade includes floats, bands, and of course, Santa Claus makes an appearance! More parade details (including start time) will be available soon, so stay tuned for information.

Island of Lights Flotilla Boat Parade

I've watched this boat parade from the shore several times. It's packed with decorated boats and genuinely impressive. On Saturday, December 4th, boats travel from Snow's Cut to the Carolina Beach Boat Basin and back. You can view view the flotilla from the waterway for free, or book tickets for the flotilla cruise if you want a closer look. Fair warning: cruise tickets tend to sell out.

Holiday Market

Head to the Carolina Beach Farmer's Market on Saturday, December 4th, to find gifts on your list! Over 50 arts and crafts vendors will participate in this annual event.

New Year's Eve Bash at SeaWitch Café and Tiki Bar

Cheers! Ring in the New Year on a huge dance floor, with a live band and a complimentary champagne toast at midnight. Party-goers will have space in a heated tent to enjoy this festive atmosphere. Tickets available here.

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN KURE BEACH

Holiday Market

This annual tradition takes place on the last two Saturdays in November at Kure Beach Oceanfront Park and Pavilion. Purchase handcrafted items with an ocean view and get a jump on Christmas shopping!

Inaugural Holiday Whoobie Whatty 'Grinch-themed' Celebration

We think this event sounds like so much fun! Take photos with The Grinch, decorate cookies, make crafts and view 'The Grinch' movie, all at Oceanfront Park on December 17th. Dress in your best 'Whoville' attire. See full details available here.

Cape Fear Festival of Trees

Visit the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher for a winter wonderland experience! The aquarium grounds transform into a delightful, glittering forest from November 26th through January 3rd. The cost of your Aquarium ticket includes admission to this special event.

Island of Lights New Year's Eve Celebration

Dance the night away at this family-friendly, free event at Kure Beach Ocean Front Park and Pavilion. Enjoy music, refreshments, and party favors available for purchase. The ball drops at midnight, followed by fireworks!
